THE RELEVANCE OF ABRAHAM'S LEADERSHIP FOR TODAY'S CHRISTIAN LEADERS

Abstract

This study examines Abraham's leadership character and its relationship to contemporary Christian leadership. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review. The primary data were taken from Abraham's life story in Genesis, chapters 12–25, while supporting data came from journals, theological books, and various literature on Christian leadership. Data collection was conducted through a literature review process, data recording, and grouping based on identified leadership themes. The data were then analyzed descriptively by reducing the data, grouping themes, and interpreting the theological meaning of Abraham's leadership character. The results show that Abraham's leadership was characterized by several important characteristics, such as faith, obedience, integrity, humility, the ability to build relationships, forward-looking vision, and steadfastness in the face of uncertainty. These characteristics are closely related to the concepts of transformational leadership and leadership based on moral and spiritual values. Abraham demonstrates that a leader's success is determined not only by his ability to influence others, but also by the quality of his character and consistency in his life. Based on these results, it can be concluded that Abraham's leadership is still relevant to be applied in contemporary Christian leadership, especially in building leadership that adheres to faith, integrity, healthy relationships, and a clear vision in facing the developments of the times.
